Our highly skilled Respiratory Therapy Department has received a Quality Respiratory Care Recognition Award from the American Association for Respiratory Care. Our ventilator weaning rates for patients previously classified as unweanable remain at or above the national weaning rates. Pulmonary/ Ventilator Weaning Programs provide individualized treatment for patients with a wide variety of cardiopulmonary needs including supplemental oxygen therapies, complex ventilator management and weaning programs. SHW provides, mechanical ventilation support
management and weaning utilizing both invasive and noninvasive techniques. Our Pulmonary Program is managed by physicians with years of experience specializing in pulmonology and critical care.

We strive to provide comfort to patients by alleviating the pain involved with wounds and wound care and optimizing the treatment environment that enables the wound to heal quickly. The Program’s approach to wound management promotes a consistent, intense and individualized approach to wound care management that is
effectual, cost effective and focuses on the promotion of wound healing, wound prevention and education.

Unfortunately, nature does not always limit health problems to one specific diagnosis at a time. The Medically Complex Patient Management Program utilizes our physician specialist to coordinate treatments that may include intensive nursing care, and a combination of nutritional support, medication management, wound care, dialysis, special procedures and rehabilitation therapies in an integrated team approach to maximize the healing process.

While patients are admitted with primary medical diagnoses into the programs already listed, our integrated Rehabilitation Services enhances all of our Medical Programs by providing treatment plans for patients who exhibit medical rehabilitation treatment needs. Our
goal is to enhance healing by maximizing mobility, strength, endurance and self care and to prepare the patient to transition to the appropriate community or rehabilitation setting.
The SHW’s Medical Rehabilitation services address:
- Mobility and self care skills
- Swallowing evaluation and therapy
- Speech/Language/Cognitive and Executive Functioning
- Progressive strengthening and endurance activities
- Individualized training of patient and caregivers to accommodate anticipated needs in the discharge setting
